GKP Event on the Future


GKP Event on the Future, Third Global Knowledge Conference, GK3, is a platform created by and for stakeholders from every sector - private companies, governments, international institutions and civil society groups. 

Gathering over 1,700 global visionaries, innovators, practitioners and policy makers over 3 days to debate on t
he development and human dimension of ICT, GK3 successfully engaged participants in intensive discussions on how the threads of emerging people, markets and technologies will intertwine to deliver the future.


Watch the BBC World Debate recorded live at GK3 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 12 December 2007. This programme was broadcasted to 76 million viewers over 200 countries worldwide in January 2008.

Opening Ceremony

Welcome Address: Rinalia Abdul Rahim, GKP Executive Director & Chair, GK3 Working Committee says, "GKP Event on the Future, GK3 is GKP's most  innovative platform for knowledge sharing and partnership building to date."

Opening address:  Walter Fust, Chair of the GKP Executive Committee & Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation says, "We are witnessing the emergence of people, markets and technologies that transcend geographies, converge and intertwine and, most importantly, will alter and shape the future. GK3 will take a close look at these three forces of change and discuss solutions for the many challenges we need to tackle."

Opening keynote address: Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia says, "By promoting effective ICT-based solutions to (development) challenges, (GKP is) helping to ensure that those who today are excluded from progress are connected to the future", as delivered by Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia

Hanif Hassan Ali, Minister of Education, UAE, says, "Higher university enrolment for women than men in United Arab Emirates today is the result of decades of efforts in providing educational opportunities for women."

Lim Keng Yaik, Minister for Energy, Water and Communications, Malaysia, says, "I believe events like GK3 are excellent facilitators of the transformation process (of society into Knowledge Society) ... GK3 is also an excellent platform to forge networks for cooperation and collaboration. We have representatives from various nations and entities, where each has their own unique capacities. Let us through GK3 explore opportunities and collaboration ... to build on each other's strengths and benefit mutually", at the GK3 Gala Dinner.
